Montrose is located in the heart of the Uncompahgre Valley in Southwestern Colorado. The nearby San Juan Mountain Range delivers a breathtaking view to the south with the Rocky Mountains lying to the east. The largest flat top mountain in the world, the Grand Mesa, is 40 miles to the north and the famous hunting area of the Uncompahge Plateau is the western border. Montrose offers easy access to the great outdoors in every direction for every season. It's a vacationer's paradise, but an even better place to call home. Our friendly community offers that small town living one longs for, but with all the amenities of a much bigger town.
With an elevation of 5,794 ft., Montrose has an inviting climate with both mild winters and summers. Spring and fall are spectacular, with some of the best colors that Mother Nature has to offer. Our year-round population is around 14,775 in the City of Montrose, but Montrose county has a total population of close to 50,000.
Montrose is often referred to as the "Hub" of the Western Slope. If you were to take a wagon wheel and place the hub or middle of it on Montrose, the spokes would lead you to all of the surrounding commumities and a large circle to lead you home. From Montrose, it's an easy drive to explore the nearby communities of Ridgway, Ouray, Telluride, Delta, Cedaredge, Hotchkiss, Paonia, Crawford, and Gunnison, all of which communities CENTURY 21 Action Realty serves.
Montrose has been voted one of Americas best places to retire. However, whether you're old or young, Montrose offers a wide variety of activities to be enjoyed by all. With a total of 4 golf courses in the city of Montrose and several others within an hour's drive, it's a golfer's dream. Many homes and home sites are located adjacent to the golf courses. The hiking and rock climbing in the area are endless. The Black Canyon National Park is only minutes away and offers rock walls that are up to 2,000 ft. deep and hiking trails to enjoy the different overlooks into the canyon. . |
